“NO TEARS” OPTIMIST EVENT FOR BEGINNERS
In addition to the Championship Series, the WMYSA also conducts an annual Opti Green Fleet “No Tears” Regatta for beginner sailors. This regatta is not scored and offers our youngest and least experienced sailors a great opportunity to try racing for the first time with plentiful coaching and caring support. The 2018 No Tears Regatta will take place at Grand Rapids Yacht Club on Friday, July 20. The Sailing Instructions below will be updated for 2018 prior to the start of the 2018 summer season.
CLUB 420 EVENT FOR HIGH SCHOOL AND MIDDLE SCHOOL AGE SAILORS
Building upon an event held in 2017, the WMYSA will also conduct a Club 420 high school style regatta on Friday, June 22, 2018 at St. Joseph Yacht Club. This event is intended to give high school and middle school age sailors the opportunity to learn more about or gain more experience with the high school and collegiate competitive sailing format. In addition to the sailing at this event, we hope to also provide a spinnaker clinic and an information forum for parents and coaches who may be interested in establishing a high school sailing team. The Notice of Race and Sailing Instructions below will be updated for 2018 prior to the start of the 2018 summer season.
