Collegiate sailing offers young sailors a great opportunity to continue their love of the sport while they attend college. And, like high school sailing, collegiate sailing is growing far more rapidly in the Midwest than anywhere else in the country!
In the Midwest, college sailing is administered by the Midwest Collegiate Sailing Association (MCSA) which is the Midwest region of the nation-wide Inter Collegiate Sailing Association (ICSA). Click HERE for more information about the MCSA.
Collegiate sailing programs offer a wide variety of ways for sailors to engage in the sport including singlehanded competition on Lasers, double handed racing on C420s or FJs, and crew racing on larger offshore keel boats. MCSA and ICSA regattas offer college sailors the opportunity to travel to regattas throughout North America where they can explore new waters and make new friends. One noteworthy example of this is the legendary Storm Trysail Intercollegiate Offshore Regatta held annually in Larchmont NY which attracts an average of 50 college teams from all over the country.
Several former West Michigan Youth Sailing Association sailors have been or are currently active in collegiate sailing. In addition to many teams in neighboring states, the following are links to active college sailing teams in Michigan. Facebook is also a great place to find information for and follow the activities of these and other collegiate sailing teams.
